MOA SIGNING BETWEEN IIUM AND KOMITED MALAYSIA

The International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) and KOMITED Malaysia (Komuniti Intervensi Dadah Malaysia) or DiC Malaysia (Drugs intervention Community Malaysia) today inked a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) to further enhance the collaborative efforts between the two parties. The collaboration will be effective for the next three (3) years.

KOMITED Malaysia or DiC Malaysia was established in 2001. It is a registered non-profit Community-Based Organisation (CBO) initiated, led and run by former drug users. Formed in 1998 and officially registered in 2001 as an NGO to address the negative impact of drug use and HIV/AIDS in Kuantan, the programmes expanded to the entire state of Pahang from 2007 onwards in line with the increasing need for serious intervention. Since 2011, DiC Pahang has reached a new milestone when the organisation expanded nationwide and registered as KOMITED Malaysia.

Starting in 2021, the cooperation program between IIUM-KOMITED Malaysia is monitored by one of the IIUM Flagships 2.0, namely the Sustainable Reimbursement Drug Policy (SRDP), Kulliyyah of Pharmacy. The SRDP flagship was established in June 2021. There are three projects implemented under this project, including:

Research on drug reimbursement policyIIUM Pharmacist Home Care Services.Community engagement in dealing with drug abuse/substance use disorders (SUD)

At present, various talks and programs have been conducted with KOMITED Malaysia under this flagship project including a series of workshops/ educational talks and community engagement for the staff and clients of KOMITED Malaysia.

This Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) marked the collaboration between the two parties in carrying out the responsibilities to conduct research and educational programs related to the treatment and rehabilitation as well as prevention of illicit drug use. This cooperation which will last for three (3) years is expected to give a positive impact on the IIUM community and KOMITED Malaysia.

Both parties are optimistic that more mutually benefitting collaborations will take place and look forward to a robust and productive partnership for the greater good of our future generation that is free from drug addiction.
